Ceramics Program

The Santa Paula Art Museum’s Cole Creativity Center offers ceramic classes, workshops and open studio for teens and adults! Professional teaching artists demonstrate and provide close, supportive instruction in hand-building or wheel-throwing. All skill levels are welcome and all supplies are provided in every class. Classes are offered year-round with course variety changing monthly. Preregistration is required.

ENROLL EARLY: You can help us prevent canceled classes and keep enrollment fees low by enrolling early for courses. If enrollments are low 72 hours before a course’s start date, we may have to cancel class, so please enroll early whenever possible. Thank you!

CANCELLATION POLICY: Cancellations made 7 days or more in advance of the start date will receive a 100% refund. Cancellations made within 4-6 days of the start date will receive a 50% refund or may transfer 100% of their credit to another class. Cancellations made within 3 days of a course’s start date are not guaranteed a refund or credit transfer in any amount. In the event that the Cole Creativity Center must cancel a class, students will receive a 100% refund.


Single Day Workshops


Multi-Day Wheel Throwing Courses

Wheel throwing courses typically produce mugs, bowls, and/or vases and focus on concepts such as symmetry and functional work. All skill levels are welcome.


Multi-Day Hand Building Courses

Hand building courses typically produce sculptural and functional work and focus on concepts such as asymmetry and altering forms. All skill levels are welcome.


Ceramics Open Studio

Access to SPAM’s Cole Creativity Center ceramic studio is available on Tuesdays from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Open studio is uninstructed; our kiln technician, Jynell will be on-site to answer any questions and assist in purchasing clay.


 

Meet Our Kiln Technician: Jynell Dimalanta

Jynell Dimalanta is a working artist living in Ventura, and a graduate of California State University Channel Islands. She has been working with clay for over a decade and works part-time as a production potter and part-time as an art educator. She received her bachelor's degree in 2019 with an emphasis in ceramic arts and graphic design and has studied under Marianne McGrath, Jenchi Wu, and Roger Lee. Jynell manages all kiln firings at SPAM’s Cole Creativity Center and keeps our ceramics program running smoothly.

Give the Gift of Art Classes

Purchase a class gift certificate in any amount for a friend or family member! They’ll be able to use your gift towards the purchase of a spot in any of the Museum’s upcoming classes on a date that works for them. Classes at SPAM’s Cole Creativity Center range from $20 - $200, but you can purchase a class gift certificate in any amount. Once we are notified of your purchase, we’ll send you and/or your recipient a unique code that can be used to register for a class online or by telephone. The Santa Paula Art Museum’s Cole Creativity Center is a shared space where creativity is abundant, artists share and inspire, students discover and explore, imagination has no limit, all are welcome, and art creates community.
