Learn the basics of throwing clay on a potter’s wheel in this six-part course for all skill levels! Join teaching artist Jynell Dimalanta inside SPAM’s Cole Creativity Center to learn how to center clay, pull cylinders, trim, and glaze. Each week’s class will focus on a new step of the process, including throwing, trimming, and glazing. Students will finish the course with an understanding of all the steps required to create a fully functional ceramic piece.

Every student will have their artwork fired in our kiln by our kiln technician. Pick-up times will be arranged by class.

Questions? Please call the Museum at (805) 525-5554 ext. 104 or email creativity@santapaulaartmuseum.org.

*Please note: Long nails can make working with clay frustrating. We recommend trimming your nails down before attending class. Clay is also very messy, so please dress in clothing you don’t mind getting stained and covered in clay. You are welcome to bring an apron and towel/rag for wiping your hands throughout the process. Long hair must be pulled back as a safety precaution.
