Explore the basics of oil painting from the ground up in Landscapes of the Sierra, a six-part course for all skill levels. Join teaching artist Gabriel Islas inside SPAM’s Cole Creativity Center for step-by-step instruction that will teach you the foundational concepts of composition, color, value, and atmospheric perspective. This special course will focus on the eastern side of the grand Sierra Nevada mountain range using square canvas panels.
This course will meet on 6 consecutive Saturdays: January 18, January 25, February 1, February 8, February 15, February 22, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm each day.
This class is appropriate for everyone ages 16 and over. The cost of the six-part course is $225.00 per person. All skill levels are welcome and all materials are provided. Preregistration is required and space is limited. The course will be held inside the Cole Creativity Center located at 123 N 10th St, Santa Paula, CA. Free parking is available directly behind the building and students may enter through the front or back door.

About Our Teaching Artist: An Oxnard native, Gabriel Islas obtained his BFA with an emphasis in painting from Academy of Art University, San Francisco. He now exhibits atmospheric paintings of his favorite California landscapes, teaches fine art, and leads the education department at the Santa Paula Art Museum’s Cole Creativity Center
