Dive into the colorful world of seascape painting on round canvases in this Oil Painting: Seascapes course inside the Santa Paula Art Museum’s Cole Creativity Center! Teaching artist Jem Morris will lead this six-part series, where students will learn traditional techniques in oil painting, including composition, light, color, and texture. Students will be led through discussions and step-by-step exercises that provide the foundation for a successful seascape painting, ranging from realistic to impressionistic application.

This is a six-part course that will be taught on six consecutive Saturdays: March 29, April 5, April 12, April 19, April 26, May 3, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

This course is for ages 16 and over. The cost of the six-part course is $225 per person. All skill levels are welcome and all materials are provided. Preregistration is required and space is limited. The course will be held inside the Cole Creativity Center located at 123 N 10th St, Santa Paula, CA. Free parking is available directly behind the building and students may enter through the front or back door.

About Our Teaching Artist:

An LA native, Jem Morris completed her BFA at Academy of Art University in San Francisco in 2019. She has explored many styles including surrealism, abstraction, landscape, figurative painting, and pet portraits in the traditional mediums of oil, acrylic, watercolor, graphite, charcoal, and gouache. Jem has been teaching painting and sculpting for both kids and adults across Ventura County for the past 5 years. Her current work could be found on her Instagram account: @jemfarts
