Development Associate
Part-time, 10 hours per week, flexible during regular business hours (Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
$30 per hour ($20,000 annually)
Job Description
The Development Associate is responsible for managing aspects of the Santa Paula Art Museum’s fundraising activities, including identifying potential donors, cultivating relationships, soliciting donations, coordinating events, and maintaining donor records. The candidate will play a role in securing the necessary funds to support the organization's mission, all while working closely with a small team and wearing multiple hats to achieve fundraising goals. The Santa Paula Art Museum is located in downtown Santa Paula and offers rotating exhibitions and a variety of public and educational art programs for all ages. Candidate must be a self-starter who exhibits excellent judgment and can multitask and prioritize with minimal direction. The position requires exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills. Attention to detail and care are essential. It is important that the individual be a team player and can demonstrate tact, courtesy, and judgment in interacting with others within the Museum and community.
The Executive Director supervises the Development Associate position, which includes the following functions:
Donor Prospecting and Research:
Identify and research potential donors through various channels, such as online databases, networking, and community outreach.
For major donors, develop comprehensive donor profiles to understand their interests and giving capacity.
Create a database of potential new donors
Donor Cultivation and Solicitation:
Initiate contact with potential donors to build relationships and educate them about the organization's work.
Conduct personalized outreach through phone calls, emails, and in-person meetings to solicit donations.
Prepare compelling fundraising appeals and proposals tailored to individual donors.
Notify the Director of potential major donor prospects and help set up meetings and solicitation materials.
Event Management:
Assist in planning and executing fundraising events, including galas, auctions, and donor receptions.
Manage event logistics.
Work with Guild Chair and volunteers to make sure registration, and food tables are maintained appropriately.
Secure sponsorships for events.
Database Management:
Accurately update and maintain donor information in a database system.
Generate reports to track fundraising progress and identify trends.
Grant Writing and Reporting:
Research and identify potential grant opportunities.
Create a grants calendar or spreadsheet to anticipate annual grants and reports and plan the grant year.
Requirements
Candidate must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with donors as well as strong organizational and time management abilities to handle multiple tasks effectively. Proficiency in donor data management, writing donor profiles, and researching potential donors is a must. Candidate must have an excellent understanding of fundraising principles and best practices (5 years of fundraising experience minimum). Candidate must have the ability to work independently and as part of a small team and have a passion for the organization's mission and commitment to its goals.
