Guests of all ages are invited to celebrate Día de los Muertos at three different locations in downtown Santa Paula on Sunday, October 30, 2022! Admission is free for everyone. Participating sites include the Santa Paula Art Museum, the Museum of Ventura County’s Agriculture Museum, and Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery. This free, family-friendly community celebration offers traditional craft making activities, Mariachi music, Aztec and Folklórico dancers, face painting, altar installations, food vendors, and more. Día de los Muertos attire is encouraged!
Visitors can begin at any of the participating locations and proceed to the others. Pick up a Día de los Muertos passport at any site, collect a stamp at all three locations, and return it to Santa Paula Cemetery to be entered into a free raffle drawing. The Santa Paula Art Museum and Agriculture Museum are within walking distance of each other, and Santa Paula Cemetery is located just 1.2 miles from the museums. Free parking is available at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery and the Santa Paula Art Museum. Hours and activities vary by location. Please see the schedule of events below:

Inside the Santa Paula Art Museum’s Cole Creativity Center, families will enjoy traditional art activities. Make your own calavera mask, Folklórico headpiece, and papel picado! Stop by a special photo op/art installation created by members of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County. Experience the Museum’s current exhibits, including Chicano artist John Galan’s Remedios (Remedies).

In honor of Día de Los Muertos, Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery is celebrating with a day full of festivities to enjoy with family and friends. Build an ofrenda on a loved one’s grave or contribute to a community altar. Have your face painted, decorate a sugar skull, and listen to Mariachi music. Visit various vendors and enjoy a tamale and cup of champurrado! Experience Aztec and Folklórico dancers, and participate in a procession throughout the cemetery. Catholic Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. with a blessing of graves to follow led by Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish.

The Museum of Ventura County’s Agriculture Museum in Santa Paula is hosting cultural dance performances and ofrendas created by the community, as well as craft activities and face-painting. The museum will also be serving horchata and pan de muerto!
