[SOLD OUT] Class: Landscapes in Oil - Essential Skills (Ages 16+)

Master the essential skills of landscape oil painting in the four-part Landscapes in Oil course at the Santa Paula Art Museum. Join current Art About Agriculture exhibiting artist Gabriel Islas for step-by-step projects that will teach you the basic elements of composition, color and value, atmospheric perspective, and traditional techniques in oil painting. The four class sessions will include a mix of lessons, demonstrations, and individual feedback to build your landscape practice:

Module 1: How to choose and refine reference materials and outline a strong sketch from which to build.
Module 2: Techniques of underpainting to establish value and lay the groundwork for atmospheric perspective and local color.
Module 3: Lecture and demo on atmospheric perspective, and continued painting with individualized instruction.
Module 4: Full studio day to finish painting with individualized instruction, Q&A and critiques.

This is a four-part course that will be taught on four Saturdays in February: Saturday, February 8, 2020, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; Saturday, February 15, 2020, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; Saturday, February 22, 2020, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; and Saturday, February 29, 2020, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The cost of the four-part series is $140.00 per person. About Our Teaching Artist: An Oxnard native, Gabriel Islas has returned to the Ventura County art scene after obtaining his BFA with an emphasis in painting from Academy of Art University, San Francisco. His latest works focus on atmospheric paintings of his favorite California landscapes on panoramic panels and he is currently featured in the Santa Paula Art Museum’s 12th Annual Art About Agriculture exhibit.
