About Our Teaching Artist: Rebecca Stebbins is an oil painter and also teaches art to children and adults, working both outdoors en plein air and in her studio near Santa Barbara, California. Rebecca began painting in oils in Provence, France in 2000, studying with Judy Ryan of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. She has studied with prominent artists in Santa Barbara and at the Taos Art Institute, Traverse City Art Center, and Chateau l'Age Baston in France. She continues to paint in France each year and has been selected for artist residencies there including at Atelier de la Rose and Bordeneuve. Her work is rooted in the traditions of realism and impressionism, both of which have a deep history in California and in France.

Born in Seattle and raised in the Midwest, Rebecca graduated from Brown University and has lived in the Santa Barbara area since 1985. For the past 12 years, she has been teaching art to K-8th grade students at Santa Barbara County’s oldest private school, The Howard School. She belongs to the California Art Club and was a founding member of SCAPE (Southern California Artists Painting for the Environment). She is also a member of the Santa Barbara Art Association and sits on the board of the SBAA Gallery 113 in Santa Barbara. She has taught at the Carpinteria Arts Center, where she also served as Executive Director for three years. Her works can be found in collections across the United States and in Europe. In her free time, she can be found in her garden, buried in books, or visiting museums around the world.
