Discover the power of your story! In the Santa Paula Art Museum’s Teen Acting and Storytelling Workshop, teens ages 13-18 will explore the craft of storytelling through exercises and activities, focusing on the Meisner acting method and others. Considering the powerful role of storytelling in our culture, students will discuss the importance and potential of their own stories and imaginations. Participants will be encouraged to come as they are, and will be give the freedom to explore their creativity in a safe, positive environment and have some fun! Light refreshments will be provided, but students should bring a lunch for the break. This one-time workshop will be followed by a free, 4-week extended course in February (meeting days and time TBA). About Our Teaching Artist: Justin Johnson Cortez was born and raised in Ventura County, California. He is a working actor in both film and television, with experience working with networks such as Fox, ABC, TNT, and Lifetime. Justin is a co-founder and teacher at The Lacy Group, a Meisner-based acting studio in Los Angeles that caters to students of all levels. In addition to acting, Justin has a passion for writing and directing, and is currently developing a feature film project. Working with youth has been one of Justin’s greatest goals. He is very excited to team up with the Santa Paula Art Museum’s Cole Creativity Center to teach teens about the craft of acting and help them discover their potential for storytelling.
